Quiero traducir el siguiente texto al español:

"Evolutionary hand-me-downs inherited from fish and tadpoles have left us with hernias, hiccups and other maladies."

Tengo algunas propuestas, pero con ninguna estoy satisfecha. Uno de mis intereses principales es recuperar el concepto de *hand-me-down.

"La herencia evolutiva que recibimos de peces y renacuajos nos ha dejado hernias, hipo y otros padecimientos."

"Las características que heredamos de peces y renajuajos durante la evolución -igual que cuando nuestros hermanos mayores nos pasan la ropa que no les queda- nos han dejado hernias, hipo y otros padecimientos."

¿Tienen alguna sugerencia?

Yo cambiaría la frase para que tuviera sentido:

'Que La herencia evolutiva que recibimos de peces y renacuajos a veces se parece a ropa de segunda mano, lo demuestra el hecho de que nos ha dejado hernias, hipo y otros padecimientos.'

As you apparently already understand, the idea here is that a hand-me-down is usually something that has been well used, and may not be in the best condition, or may not be wanted very much by the recipient. Therefore, while evolution has given us many wonderful things, it has also left us with a few things that we don't really need or want (other examples include tailbones, appendixes, and wisdom teeth).

A hand-me-down is most often a piece of clothing (prenda usada o heredada), but could be anything. I don't think there is an exact translation into Spanish, but the translation should convey the above idea, that these traits are not merely herencias, but herencias que no queremos o necesitamos tanto.
