Hola mi amigo, Welcome to Spanishdict.com.
Hola, My name is Gwenyd. It is actually spelled wrong. I don't actually have the
correct spelling right now. It's a user name and when I first used it (it's a Welch
name, if I spelled Welch right) I had to come up with a different spelling since it was used so much. It's the name of Madog of Wales. He seems to have
discovered America around 1200 C.E. or about 300 years before Columbus. Anyway I got his name now. Enough about that. I want to learn Espanol. I have for a long time. Decades. I'm looking for ideas. I stumbled on to the idea of downloading
the Firefox web browser. But in spanish. Almost every word in the browser is spanish. However, I'm so familiar with the english Firefox, I can still find my way around with the spanish one. I started looking up words in my Spanish-English Dictionary. It hit me that there must be 100, 200, spanish words in the Firefox browser that I really needed to look up. I have a big hardback Sp/Eng dictionary that I bought about 3 or 4 years ago. Using it takes to much time but I was having fun. If I would just stick with it. Then I got the idea of an on-line dict. I knew they have some english ones that are excellent. Google found this one right off the bat. It was the first one listed. I went no further at least not yet. I'm so far very much impressed with this one. It doesn't seem to have any slang words however. I tried to look up vato, meaning dude. It doesn't have it. However, it is super good at looking up words that are only forms of words in my big hardback version, words that are just not listed in the codex version, at least so it seems.
So, I don't speak espanol. I would at least like to be able to read it. And I'm making some headway there. If you have any tricks I would like to know about them. I've always thought: you have to be around spanish speaking people to really learn it. It seemed you have to speak it everyday or it just won't stick. Well, I now have this spanish web browser and I use it for hours everyday. With this new SpanishDict as well maybe I just may have something. Because it works so fast and pulls up almost every word I throw at it maybe I can stick with it. I love Dictionaries and can spend hours in an english one. Maybe I've stumbled onto something that will work. I live in California where spanish is not a foreign language. Spanish and English are on signs on every building.
Well I gotta go.
