I am new to this website and, of course, love it!!!. unfortunately often when I travel I do not have good internet access. Is there a dictionary I can download to my Mac and IPod, free or not. Of course I would prefer from Spanish Dict, but if anyone has any other good suggestions I would appreciate it. I am only beginig to learn spanish and this would be so helpful. Thanks!

There are many Spanish/English dictionaries. My first 2 cost a dollar each at Dólar y Más, in Tijuana. My faves are the heavy and huge ones with tons of word derivations, word histories, and lots of usage examples, including all the idiomatic ones. The kind you find in libraries and can't carry with you.

The small dictionary I'm happiest with of late is "Harrap's Spanish and English Pocket Dictionary," (McGraw Hill: 2005.)---|although the only pocket it will fit in is on my canvas field coat.

It is just over 300 pages, "written with the beginner and intermediate Spanish student in mind," chock full of usage examples, including idioms and colloquialisms, conjugates verbs regular and irregular, and covers specialized fields , "such as information technology, sports and finance." (Preface)

And it may be cheaper than downloading an internet dictionary. List price at Barnes & Noble bookstore is $5.95 USD.
