i was trying to translate the following and im looking for better wording.

Dont walk in front of me, i may not follow. Dont walk behind me, i may not lead.
Just walk beside me and be my friend.

No camine delante de mí, podría no siga (or sigo)? (or seguir').?
No camine detrás de mí, podría no lleve (or llevo)? (or llevar)?
Justo camina a mí lado y sé

Very free:

No vayas por delante de mí, puede que no te siga.
No me sigas, puede que no sea buen guía.
Simplemente ponte a mi lado, y sé mi amgosmile

You could say "quizás" or "tal vez" for the first two sentences. In the "tú" form, it would be "sé mi amigo(a)" but in the "usted" form it would be "sea".

I would have said, "puede que yo no siga" . . . but it might be wrong . . .

I think that you would want to use the tú form, since you are referring to the person as your friend.
