"Hold me"
holaa, estoy viviendo en españa y tengo un novio aqui. Quiero dicerle "hold me" como una mujer deciría a su hombre. He usado 'abrazame" pero quierria las palabras ser mas.... profundo? En ingles una mujer deciría 'hug me', nunca, asi que, yo necesito una nueva palabra por mi novio.
Tell me if any of that didn't make sense, I tried my best to explain in Spanish. Basically I just want to say to him to hold me... with an intense meaning, sabes?
Gracias

agarrame is like "grab me" but it does not need to be translated so sexually either as "grab" i think it would also be like "hold onto me" which from your posts is what you seem to try to be conveying. you could say "agarrate de mi" which would be more like "hold onto me" where as just "agarrame" would be like "hold me/grab me" the verb agarrar can be translated directly as "hold" not only "grab" for example in NYC where I live it is common to see subway signs that read "agarrase siempre" with a picture of people holding poles on the train, thus it is like "always hold onto" the pole or railings, etc. although spanish is not my first language I have heard many native speakers translate "agarrar(se)" as meaning simply "to hold onto" not only to grab...it is more like a clutching of something where as abrazar is more like an embrace, hence the similarity in words between abrazar and embrace... personally I understand what you mean about how "abrazame" would seem kinda childish and thats why I would use "agarrar"
hope it helpped. I know I was a bit repetitive and have neglected accent marks, my appologies.

hahahaha!! I guess I could find the whole 'grab me' thing useful in the future, but for now I think I'll just stick with the more passive, (hopefully a little more romantic...) 'hold me'.Thanks all!

Please, accept my apologies for the confusion caused and all the errors I committed on your post.Yes, indeed abrazar means to hug or to embrace. Here is the definition I found on my Larousse English - Spanish Dictionaryhug.............abrazar, ceñirto say in Spanish = hug me, just change the word abrazar to abrázame.Ceñir according to de dictionary also means to hug, I never used that word and even worse, I don´t know how to conjugate the verb (ceñir).I do not know any other words to express hug me, I am thinking about the word agararr which meansto grab, to clutch. If you want to use this word say agárrame which would mean grab me.At any rate, I want to make it clear that the mistakes were of my making and not Gloria's.I hope you liked the song.

lol okay, so even though Gloria has made all kinds of other mistakes within that song, she's correct about 'hold me' being equivilent to 'abrazame'?

In Spain "Dame un abrazo" is a perfectly normal and common sentence that you can hear even among friends. I don't know what's wrong with it. Any Spanish woman (or man) would say that.
Casey, I totally got it. Why do you think I mentioned the word sexual? As I said, I was reply to your flat statement that women never say "hug me." That's all.
Sorry you don't like me. I'm crushed!
She wouldn't say it in a sexual context, because hugging is not necessarily sexual, but it is very common for a woman to ask a man to hug her, and not just on the street (and why would it be awkward'). Your flat statement that a woman would "never" say it was what I objected to.
As for rules, I haven't lived in Spain (have only traveled there), but in Latin America hugging is as natural as breathing, so I find it hard to believe that Spanish women would not give lots of hugs to friends and other acquaintances. In Latin America I have been told "(Dame) un abrazo" many times, by women ranging from teachers and host mothers to friends. Women often sign letters and email with a casual "Un abrazo."
I probably inherited it from my father, but I'm a big hugger, and I hug women all the time, so maybe it's a personality difference.
she might, but like, I know there are rules here. But think about when a woman would say 'hold me'... in that particular situation, she wouldn't say 'hug me'...
maybe if like, they were out in the street she'd say that... although that would be awkward too...

Hola:
Estoy viviendo en España y tengo novio aquí. Quiero dicerle "hold me" como una mujer se lo diría a su hombre. He usado "abrázame," pero quisiera que las palabras sean mas.... profundas? En inglés una mujer nunca diría 'hug me', así que necesito una nueva palabra que pueda usar con mi novio.
Pero, ¿por qué dices que una mujer nunca diría 'hug me' en inglés? Me suena muy natural.

I agree with you ,is a lot better to use hold me instead of clutch me(agarrame) I would be afraid to ask my girlfriend to grab me. Who knows what my happen- Her temper is stormy and she is quick with her fist and it is not too littlle either.

hug.............abrazar, ceñir
to say in Spanish = hug me, just change the word abrazar to abrázame.
Ceñir according to de dictionary also means to hug, I never used that word and even worse, I don´t know how to conjugate the verb (ceñir).
