I agree James, however, no context was added. With just those words... I did provide the correct translation.

"¿Cómo es'" would rarely be translated as "How is it/he/she'" It is far more common for it to mean "What is it/he/she like'" This Spanish question is also routinely used to ask what something or someone looks like. "How" asks for a condition, but the Spanish here asks for a description of the innate qualities of something.
