The family wanted to go to the zoo.
La familia quería ir al zoológico. ¿está correcta?
Is it the same if only I want to go to the movie?
Yo quería ir al cine.

Looks good to me but your translation appears to say "was wanting", How about La familia quiso ir al zoo o zoológico.
