in todays daily word (yes I finally get them) , the word is.....

Examples:
Me gustaría tener un gato, pero tengo alergías. - I love cats, but I have allergies.

Granted my spanish is very limited, but how in the...uh...world, yeah, world...whew...do they get
"I love cats" from "Me gustaría tener un gato" ?

never mind the disparity in the number of freakin cats, but wouldn't it be more like "I would love to have..." ?

Am I that bad or is the translation just a tad....uh....loose'

actually, it's FOUR languages...spanish, french, german, and english...they're the four that speak to one degree or another...wanted to cover all the bases lol

Yes they are using it loosely.

Me gustaría tener un gato is I would like to have a cat.

Me gustan los gatos is I like cats.
