I don't know about you, guys, but I wouldn't never say "Me gustaría una cerveza" when talking to the bartender. It is a nice word-by-word translation, but we don't speak like that (in Spain, at least). A simpler, more common way is:

¿Me pone una cerveza (, por favor)?

If I had a bar, and someone said to me "Me gustaría una cerveza", I'd probably answer with a joke, saying something like "Y a mí me gustaría ser rico" (and I'd like to be rich).

Haha in English if someone would tell me "put me a beer" I would feel like answering "how about I put you out of your misery instead?" j/k :P - amcsi, May 13, 2015

When ordering in a restaurant I would say "Me gustaría..." but in a bar just, "una cerveza por favor," sounds pretty natural.

What about "quisiera"? I was taught, when ordering in restaurants to say something like "Quisiera la carne asada por favor." (or whatever). Does this also sound foreign?

"Quisiera" and "querría" are the same thing. It sounds a bit too formal for my taste, but it is fine, as you'll never offend anyone by being too polite. I'd simply say "Quiero la carne asada".

Not formal, but foreign.

I just got back from Mexico 4 hours ago. Your statement may be a little formal. "Por favor, un Tecate." The most popular beer is "Tecate" -- they just came out with "Tecate Lite".

Why is this a question? I would like a beer, please.
gustaría

That should be fine. That will, of course, provoke a question as to what "marca" (brand) of beer so it would be well to have in mind some choice. ¨(Using the only two brands that I know, off hand), you could abbreviate the conversation somewhat by starting off by saying "Me gustaría una Carta Blanca (or Dos Equis), por favor.
