sagrado or santo?

Is "Holy Spirit" in spanish "Espíritu Santo" or "Espíritu Sagrado"?
I heard it's "Espíritu Santo" but "Santo" means "saint" not "holy" (I think), so why would you say "Espíritu Santo" instead of "Espíritu Sagrado" when saying "Holy Spirit"'

Santa Cruz means Holy Cross, not Saint Cross.Sagrado means sacred. Nearly synonymous with santo, but not exactly the same.

james is right, I meant to say "holy".

Not "spirit"'''?
Is it not totally obvious that "espíritu" is the same as "spirit"'

Santo as an adjective means holy. My bible says "Santa Biblia" on the front (my husband asked if that's because it
s a Christmas present jajaja). Sagrado means sacred.

(Don't forget... in Spanish the adjective follows the noun.) smile

The word 'saint' and the word 'sanctified' which also means Holy are from the same root so it's not much of a stretch to translate Holy Spirit in to Sanctified Spirit.
