Is Everyone Too Shy to Speak Spanish With Each Other?
There seems to be a reluctance from people to actually put their feet in the water and actually start using what little they have learnt by talking to each other.
I have bought a microphone in order to visit the chat room. Not necessarily to speak Spanish with Spanish people but just to practice speaking and listening Spanish. Alas there is never anyone there.
The text chat is predominantly in English and is impossible to keep up with general conversation while trying to think and type what little you know in Spanish and you end up just joining in in English for the chat rather than the learning..
I have met a couple of native Spanish speakers though and record bits of English onto an MP3 file with a transcript to help them and they have promised to return the favour, which is great.
But surely some of us would like to do this with other beginners, no?
So if anyone has recording capabilities and wants to transfer audio files with transcript or translation please contact me or lets get a group together to go to the video chat room and have fun using the language we crave to speak.
You can always contact me direct at harrytrow@blueyonder.co.uk

Wow Harry, never knew you felt this way amigo...you should've said something, I would've accommodated you to a certain extent. Next time speak up and ask to practice with someone and then pay attention to that person only in chat and ignore the rest, otherwise you will get lost as you already know. Mark your paisan does it all the time and he's a monkey and we help him out...so, imagine you a smart, witty, handsome human asking for help, you would get a lot further
So dive in, the water is fine! cya, me P.S.

Hey Harry, how are you doing today. It is 8:30 AM here in Rhode Island USA. I met you by accident yesterday November 4 in the chat room. It was sooo cool, I have never seen this before. I look forward to meeting you there again and practicing spanish verbally. When is a good time for you, normally? I have been there today and just missed two other members. I am sure we will eventually set up some kind of schedule. I am still learning to navigate around this site. I will not be around today at 1PM, I have errands to run, but perhaps another time or day? Also how do you change your key board for spanish characters. Normally it is easy, but I have not been able to do it on this site.

If I wasn't greyhaired already I will surely get it now. Now I have this problem again. I can't get in. My mic is totally dead.
I have had similar problems. The proceedure that I suggested earlier (especially rebooting the computer) worked for me at the time. However, When I went back to the chat room later, the microphone was dead. Since I had done nothing in the interim to change the system, I'm inclined to suspect that the "tokbox" software is "flakey". It's possible that it's necessary to reboot the computer just before attempting the enter the chat room but that certainly should not be necessary.
lol well done la podenquera

It was great fun, nice to hear you guys The software itself leaves something to be desired, though. I've found the same as samdie I guess. To completely leave the chat you'll have to quit your browser "and then some". Quite interesting how I could still hear you (and be heard) outside of the page. And I'm still not sure how to turn off my camera. But overall, great initiative.

I have done this several times but it doesnt seem to help. I have ckecked my mic now on my computor so I will give it one more try.
If your microphone is a USB device, I'd suggest the following (based on problems that I experienced).
With the microphone connected:
1) Close down your browser and then restart it. Log into the site and go to the chat area.
2) Shut down and then restart your computer (if #1 doesn't work), start the browser, etc.
In the chatroom window (upper 2/3, roughly) (which may need to be activated by clicking o the "arrowish" icon)
there's a moving-bars graph to indicate the volume of the sound. This should move when you make noises (even if you're the only person present).
well everything went well for our first go .
In the end both la podequera y vikingo managed to get in and the chat was good with a bit of spanish and a bit of english yippee
After you click on "Video Chat", it will take a little bit to load the "tokbox." Then it will ask you, "Allow cdn.tokbox.com to access your camera and microphone'" Check "allow" and then click close. Make sure your microphone is on.
