la cual
I'm trying to translate from Spanish to English:
Spanish: "Se reporta que el trabajo mas importante de Hipatia se dio en algebra, area sobre la cual escribi? comentarios sobre seis libros de la Arimetica de Diofanto..."
English: "It reports that the most important work of Hypatia was in Algebra, an area where she wrote comments in six books on Arimetica by Diofanto..."
Is my translation correct?
Thanks in advance.

It is reported that the most important work of Hypatia was realized in algebra, an area in which she wrote comments / (a) commentary about the six books of Arithmetica by Diophantus. She worked out alternative solutions and new problems, in such a way that her commentary was incorporated into what is known as the Diophantine Manuscripts.

well the rest of the sentence goes "...la Aritmetica de Diofanto; trabajo soluciones alternativas y nuevos problemas, de tal manera que sus comentarios fueron incoporados a lo que se conoce como Manuscritos Diofantinos."
I hope this helps understand the sentence

Good point, Steve, "commentaries about" is more appropriate.
she wrote comments in six books on Arimetica by Diofanto..."
Is this referring to comments in the books themselves, or (as I read it) commentaries on the books'
The English title of those books is Arithmetica by Diophantus, a famous work.
I don't think algebra should be capitalized in the English sentence, according to American usage anyway.
área has an accent in Spanish.
Go math!
