See this site for a good discussion of the four porkays.

http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/a/porque.htm

Por que occurs when que as a relative pronoun follows the preposition por. If that sounds confusing, think of por que as meaning "for which," although it is often translated as "that" or "why."

' Esa es la razón por que he querido salir. (That is the reason for which I wanted to leave.)
' El motivo por que llegué tarde fue el paro de buses. (The reason for which he arrived late was the bus stoppage.)

My brain keeps telling me it should be "la razón por la que", but I can´t get that to fit right in the sentence.

You're right. When I first typed it, I omitted the space, which was just a typo. When I reread my post as quoted in Joe's reply, I realized it looked odd, and I "fixed" it, making another error in the process. The second time wasn't so much a typo as a brain freeze (I was probably thinking in English, and subconsciously translated "why").Thanks for pointing it out.

Not to nitpick, but are you sure that que should have an accent?

Please note that I mis-typed something:"...lo cual es la razón porque..." should have been "lo cual es la razón por qué..."

Gracias, James por la aclaración.

I was wondering becuase "it is the reason because" does not sound right.

You could also say "..., lo cual es la razón porque...," among other things.

The sentences are: " I don't have as much money as him. That is why I don't go out as often as he does.

You'll get much better answers if you give context, Joe, but the basic answer is "Por eso."
