Pegatina, Calcomania, Lepita
I'm listening to my kids watch the movie "Cars" in Spanish and the main character is a race car (which of course has a bunch of stickers all over him). His friend calls him "Stickers" for fun in the English version. In the Spanish version she calls him "Lepitas", at least that is what it sounds like. I can't find a Spanish word like that anywhere. The word I learned for sticker is "calcomania" and the word I found in the dictionary is "pegatina".
Am I hearing "lepitas" correctly? Are one of these words more common than the other as far as stickers are concerned?

Hi Lee, I see this thread is quite old, but I think I found a pretty sensible answer for you. I searched "lapitas" rather than "lepitas" and came up with this:

Apparently, it is a type of printed pottery, which makes more sense to me than calling McQueen a butterfly.
lepitas might be a play on word, a cute or funny way of saying " you honk at". Pitar is to honk at while pito is horn.

It might be a geographical thing, but I have heard both in use. On the radio here (in California), the latter seems to be more common. Note that it is written as calcomanía, with an accent. I think calcomanía originally meant a water-transfer decal, but it is now used for the stickers loved by kids everywhere, as is pegatina. I don't know if pegatina can be used to mean a water-transfer decal, and if not, that would be one difference between them.
Ok, I guess you just have to watch it. I wasn't sure if you would all know so much about "Cars" so I was being vague. Sally almost always calls Rayo McQueen "Stickers". In the Spanish version (not the Mexican Spanish version) she calls him "Lepitas" (at least that's what it sounds like).

Which car is called Stickers? Here is a picture and list of names of all the main cars in the film in English. None is called Stickers, nor do I recall such a car.
