Question

Hola, me gustaria que me ayuden con la traduccion mas apropiada para "Centro Tecnologico Metalmecanico y del Transporte".

Yo lo he definido como Technological Center for Metal-mechanics and Transports, pero creo que también podría decirse Metal-mechanical and Transports Technological Center. Pero luego pienso también que podría ser Technology Center en lugar de Technological? Estoy un poco confundico con esto, a ver si alguien me hecha una mano.

You're right, the organization I'm referring to is indeed Cetemet, but although its activities are mainly related to ground transport, ithey're not limited to it.
Concerning metalmecánico, I see there are different approaches to its definition, but after researching and discussing a bit about it, I think that the most suitable term for it, at least in this case, is metalworking.

I have never heard of metal-mechanics, and I don't think metalmecánico means metallurgy, which is defined as follows.

1. The science that deals with procedures used in extracting metals from their ores, purifying and alloying metals, and creating useful objects from metals.
2. The study of metals and their properties in bulk and at the atomic level.

Metalmecánico is rather an adjective referring to metalworking, and in an automotive context I think we usually say metal fabrication, which means making usable parts from metal by machining (stamping, punching, cutting, drilling, bending, etc.)

Also, the full name of this organization seems to be Centro Tecnológico Metalmecánico y del Transporte Terrestre, and it is abbreviated as Cetemet. Their website says "Cetemet es el centro tecnológico que en Andalucía orienta, organiza, y ayuda a los profesionales y empresas del sector metalmecánico y del transporte."

I would translate the full name as Technology Center for Metal Fabrication and Ground Transport.

I think you mean Engineering Metallurgy, as a subfield of Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering. I hope that Lazarus or Guillermo will see this thread; either of them would be well qualified to help out.

Metallurgy me suena algo pobre en su concepto pues se refiere básicamente a la obtención de metales en su estado más simple. La Metalmecánica es una rama de la ingeniería, una mezcla de metalurgia y mecánica que incluye la transformación de los metales para convertirlos en maquinaria, vehículos, partes y piezas, etc., y es un término comunmente usado en español.
Esto por si pudiera aclarar algo más la idea.

I would say: Advanced Technology Center for Metallurgy and Logistics (or Transportation). "Metal-mechanics" is not clear. Note that I am in the US; other forum members may offer other options.

Fabian, favor de describir un poco mas qué es esto. Me parece ser un nombre de un departamento o cátedra de la universidad, ¿es correcto? Metalmecánico, ¿puedes describirlo con unas otras palabras? Gracias.
