Casa has the meaning of house; how does it differ from hogar if any'

I didn't misunderstand you nor did I think that you thought house=home. However, the original poster's question suggested a possible lack of awareness of the disjunctive uses of house/home (or else why be surprised/puzzled that there could be several words [with related meanings] in Spanish).

Also I wanted to see if I could slip that past the censors.

Pretty much the same as house and home. Hogar literally means hearth, so it conjures up an image of a snug, warm, and safe haven.

However, when you want to say "I'm going home," you will use casa.
