Hey there!
I was listening to a podcast from SpanishPod.com and one of the lessons actually covered this topic. To translate "text message", by their terms, would be "mensajito' or 'little message'. If you think about it, a text message is a 'little message' if you're comparing it to, say, a telegram. Image, back before telephones, that someone wanted to send a message to you quickly; they would send a telegram. Now that telegram is smaller to fit on your cell phone screen, hence the 'little message'. Mensajito.

I hope this helps a little more!

adiós!

That is awesome!! Never thought of that! Thank you so much-I will actually suggest that my students take out their phones in class someday and we will learn all the vocab!! They will be psyched-middle school kids cannot bear to be away from thier phones and they will be practicing at the same time! Thank you sooo much!smile

You can use "mensaje texto" or you can simply use "texto" if you want. A good way to find these things out is to get used to your phone in English and then switch it over to Spanish and figure out the corresponding translations. A friend of mine switched my phone to this setting and I was lazy enough to keep it, and then I realized that after a bit it was very helpful seeing some of these obscure phrases and words in Spanish that I didn't know because now I do and it will probably prove helpful in the future. So there is my nugget of advice for the day. Hope it helps.

Peace
