Yes, this is really odd. Alojar means to shelter or to provide quarter (to troops). If anyone's interested, this is the DRAE's definition:

Alojar

(Del prov. alotjar, y este del germ. 'laubja, enramado; cf. a. al. ant. lauba).

  1. tr. Hospedar o aposentar. U. t. c. intr. y c. prnl.

  2. tr. Colocar una cosa dentro de otra, y especialmente en cavidad adecuada. U. t. c. prnl.

  3. tr. Dar alojamiento a la tropa. U. t. c. prnl.

  4. tr. Dicho de una autoridad local: Colocar a los braceros parados cuyo servicio y pago distribuye forzosamente entre los propietarios.

  5. prnl. Dicho de las tropas: Situarse en algún punto. Alojarse en la brecha.
