The sentence in English gives no clue about aspect, whereas in Spanish aspect is indicated in the tense. My guess is that the sentence should have been:
Después de la pelea, quiso hacerse amigo de ella.
The choice between "quiso" and "quería" depends on what do you want to express. Do you want others to assume that this "le'ts all be friends" was rather a sudden idea, or he eventually tried to become her friend, or she had this desire, but the whole thing is over? Use "quiso". If you don't want others to make any assumptions (yet) regarding the start or the end of this emotional state some time after the fight (maybe because you want to continue telling something that happened while he still wanted to be her friend), use "quería".
In other words:
' If you say "...quiso hacerse amigo de ella.", you can safely assume that at some point, after that fight, he no longer wanted to befriend her; maybe because he succeeded. We look at the whole picture, once finished.
If you say "...quería hacerse amigo de ella", we can't assume anything. Maybe he still wants, maybe not. At that time, you could describe the situation as "He wants to befriend her". Anything can happen after that; the story continues... in the past, of course.
Could it be constructed like this?
Después de la pelea con ella, él quería hacerse amigo.
Gracias!
I am a rookie at the spanish language & it can be really frustrating at times because i want to learn the language sooo much!
How long have you been learning spanish? What techniques have you found to be best for learning the language'
You could say "Después de la pelea, quería entablar amistad con ella" or "...quería hacerse amigo de ella," but in translating, it is often helpful to analyze what exactly you are trying to say. "Befriend" here has the broader meaning of "to treat someone with compassion and kindness," so there are probably other ways to express the concept here.
The pattern is "hacerse de" + name of person you want to befriend. Don't forget to use accents correctly!
Después de la pelea, quería hacerse amigo de ella.
