Is this a flashlight, or something else? Here's the sentence from the book I'm reading.

En la puerta, el haz de luz de un reflector recorría la sala, deteniéndose en las secciones que había algún movimiento.

In the door, the light''? moved around the room, stopping in the sections where there was any movement.

I think reflector can also be a searchlight, so it would be "the beam of light from the searchlight..." Don't know if that fits your context.

Searchlight makes the most sense, as it was a very large barracks. ¡Gracias de nuevo!

A reflector is a term also use in English, but in your language is more restricted to some technical fields, while in Spanish is a fairly common term. Basically, it is a kind of spotlight or similar, with some reflective surfaces on the back of the bulb to redirect (reflect) the light in a particular direction, or in a particular manner. The usual arrangement of the typical front light of a bicycle is a reflector, and so is a searchlight, like James said.
