No, actually it's true, they know nothing, they just think they know everything.

I knew I would probably be wrong. I just thought I'd get things going. In the heading I missed the de él that was added.

Candy, the sentence is not punctuated or accented in Spanish, so it is very difficult to interpret. In other words, we are not sure if the speaker is saying his brother was 15, or that he had not heard from his brother for 15 years, or something else.
