The verb to date?
when you are dating a woman or a man as in a relationship. what is the correct word to use for that usage?
In dictionary it says fechar? but my spanish mom from work used another word for it but i forgot the word. what is. the correct term'

I completely agree with JAmes Santiago! Salir would be the verb here.
The most common verb would be salir.
¿Estás saliendo con ella?
Are you dating her/going out with her'

Mariana es una conocida mía.
Mariana es una compañera estudio/trabajo (if you dont specified it would be seen as your fiance)
Mariana es mi amiga
Mariana es mi amigovia. (used by kids and teenagers or when you dont really know what you are but you know that you are something)
Mariana es mi chica. ( dont know if it is used in spain but I use it )
Mariana es mi novia.
Mariana es mi compañera.
Mariana es mi pareja.
Mariana es mi fiance. (French word used in Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, I dont know if it use in spain or mexico)
Estoy comprometido con Mariana.
Estoy casado con Mariana.
Mariana es mi esposa.
Hmmm... in the case of dating someone:
For your parents is always "pareja" or something formal.
For your friends... well... whatever you want except "esposa".
For your girlfriend or whatever she is, look carefully and try to think what she is expecting from you. For instance if she likes you but she is not already your girlfriend, NEVER tell her that she is your girlfriend.
It is common in the case of dating someone to refer to that person as your "novia" if she is a female. If the person is a male, he is referred to as your "novio".

I was quite confused by the word fechar myself.
We would use:
citarse/quedar/tener cita/ salir con/ tener novio....

"Fechar" means to give something a date, not to date someone. As James said, the most common option is "salir (con)", but of course, there are other options.
