For those who ask how to type the ÿ, the accents and other Spanish symbols like ¿ or ¡, here is the most efficient method in Windows XP (although in Vista is similar):

Go to Control Panel

Click on Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options.

Then click on Regional and Language Options

Select the Languages tab.

Click on Details.

Click on Add, choose Spanish, and then select any variant.

The International Sort is configured like this:

The one used in Mexico like this:

Paralee, go into your Systems Pref>International>Input Menu and click the box next to Keyboard Viewer. It should then show up under the "flag." Then you'll be able to use the Option key. You won't have to type several keys to get one accent. (This is for the Mac.)

Spanish keyboard. It took a while for me to work out that to get '@' you have to type '2' whilst holding down the 'Alt Gr' key.

Here are instructions to create the accents on a PC in Spanish.

Press the "Alt" key on your keyboard and while keeping it pressed, type the combinations of numbers below. The numbers must be typed on the keypad or the letter won't work. The keypad is on the right of your keyboard (NOT above the letters on your keyboard.)

"Alt" + "0225" á
"Alt" + "0233" é
"Alt" + "0237" í
"Alt" + "0243" ó
"Alt" + "0250" ú
"Alt" + "0252" ü
"Alt" + "0241" ñ
"Alt" + "0191" ¿
"Alt" + "0161" ¡
"Alt" + "0193" Á
"Alt" + "0201" ÿ
"Alt" + "0205" Í
"Alt" + "0211" ÿ
"Alt" + "0218" ÿ
"Alt" + "0220" ÿ

yeah, when I type in alt (holding down the key or otherwise) the 165, it either does nothing, or if I do it in a word document, it merely takes me to "save as" v-annoying, I looked at the website but still can't figure it out.

I got a work-around answer: click the flag at the top of the screen and "Show Character Palette." Not a very quick solution, but a solution. I don't have the option to "Show Keyboard Viewer" when I click the flag. only the Character Palette, "Show Input Source Name" (which just puts "Spanish ISO" next to the flag) and "Open International". Looks like I may be out of luck.
Although, while playing around while writing this, I did find that if I am using the regular U.S. keyboard and I press Shift + Alt/Option + 8, then I get the °. But I'm assuming that's a degree symbol and not so much a superscript O like I was hoping for.

You can still do the writing section in the lessons by clicking on the accented letters below the text box. This will insert the letters you need. But now that you have your keyboard set up, you can earn the points much faster and much more naturally! As for the microphone, I had a little trouble with that too lately, and I have let our programmer guy know about it, so it´s in the works! Thanks for your input.

¡Muchas gracias, Lazarus1907! I was having trouble with this one. I had to skip the writing section until now. I aso cannot seem to do the speaking part, because my microphone isn't working with the program. Any help for this? Another good thing to have in a FAQs section. I'm such a newbie that I can't really write in Spanish yet.

Otra vez, muchas gracias. Phyllis

If you are using the US keyboard layout, you might want to try the US international keyboard. It changes the function of the right alt key. You hold down the right alt key while typing the character. right alt n gives you ñ,right alt e=é,right alt a=á,etc... right alt /=¿, right alt1=¡. you never have to look up codes or deal with a new layout. This works in xp, I'm not sure about Vista

I should say that it's the case with the Canadian and US English keyboards. On the Norwegian keyboard, you can even get a ? when you type Option 'a.' grin

la diferencia entre mejillon y almeja es la misma que hay entre un gato,un tigre y un leon, que aunque son de la misma familia, pero son distintos animales smile.
