What does the spainish word that sounds like "Essay" mean and how is it spelled? It is used in the form of referring to a friend as in This is my essay, or he is my essay or hey essay.. not knowing the speeling of course is my major problem in finding the meaning. It could also perhaps be a slang or street useage word.

Just a wild guess... my "s.a" (my special amigo/a) as some form of "Spanglish"

I really think "ese" is the word she's looking for. Of course Lazarus is right, and it is not pronounced exactly the same, but a less observant, more casual, English-speaking listener would very likely not hear the differences.

Spanish and English words sound differently most of the time, so it it hard to tell what you heard. Maybe it was "ese", meaning "that" for masculine nouns. That word is somewhat close in pronunciation to "essay", but of course it doesn't sound exactly the same (in English the vowel changes, whilst in Spanish it doesn't).
