My vocabulary list

My vocabulary list

I'm having trouble with the vocab list feature. I hope it's okay to post this question here: When I go to the dictionary and look up a word there's a button that says 'add to vocab list.' That opens a vocab list page. At first I thought the code should just add the word to the list, but it didn't, so I added it manually. Then it told me that I had to have 5 words in the list for the page to be saved. So I typed in 5 words. At that point it saved my list. When I went to the dictionary again and looked up a word and clicked on the 'add to list' button it added my word to the list. Great, I'm thinking, now it's going. Next time I try to add a word I get an error that says the 'new item cannot be added', doesn't say why. That would be word 7 in my list. Does that mean it won't allow me to have a list of more than 6 words? Is there a page that outlines exactly how the Vocabulary list works; I suppose there is, but I couldn't find it. Thanx.

I also find the requirement that I have to enter 5 words in order to save the list puzzling. Don't see the need for it.

Well I just tried to add a new word and it just keeps "scrolling" and doesn't actually add the word. I may be doing something wrong but I cannot see where.

I am getting exactly the same result. I was using Safari so I went to Firefox because Firefox often handles web pages better than Safari. I tried to ender a word from the dictionary and couldn't, I got the spinning icon. I also noticed on the my vocab page at the lower right where the terms are listed, the English and Spanish words had been reversed, that is, the spanish words were now in the English column and vice versa. I hadn't entered them that way.I created a new list and input my mandatory 5 entries and saved it. When I went to the dictionary and tried to enter the new word in my vocab list I just got an endless spinning icon. (I noticed that now that I had 2 lists when I tried to enter the word from the dictionary it didn't give me any choice as to which one to enter the new word in.)I deleted the first vocab list and tried again. Now I had only one list. Still the little spinning icon, no result. My list is intact, the flashcard feature works.I was unable to get back to the list entry window, couldn't find a link for that. (I had observed that in the entry window, where you can enter words manually, that the question mark icon to the right of the 'Tags' field was a broken link. Not a big deal but indicates the site is still a work in progress .)I have spent some time trying to find my way through this. At this point I can't either add a word to my list from the dictionary nor can I find a way to enter it manually now. You are saying that it's a mysterious glitch that only happens once. Eddy reports the same thing. So at this point the list is useless to me, it has effectively locked me out. I sense bad coding. I'm mot blaming you, bugs creep in. But to just throw up your hands and say it must be my problem isn't responsible.I really like this web site. I love its features, so don't think I'm critical or dismissive. Keep up the good work.I'm using a Mac Pro Intel, OS 10.5.4, Safari 3.1.2, Firefox 2.0.0.16

I am going to report this to the web owner. There looks to be an obvious fault or we are missing something.

Hi Pergolesi
Like quentin, I have just added 7 words and formed a list. You must be doing something wrong or there was glitch as quentin said. Why don't you try again and report back.

Hmmmm....no further replies?
Pergolesi,
I just wanted to let you know that I tried using the Vocubulary's List feature after reading your note. I had noticed the feature before, but I had never tried using it. I created a list of 18 items (so there is no 6 word limit) and was able to append a 19th from our Dictionary's "add this word to a list" function. It sounds like the system (server) may have just hiccupped or blinked when you tried to add a word to your list. It's a nightmare trying to fix a glitch that won't repeat itself (going to a mechanic with your vehicle that refuses to make the rattle that's been driving you crazy), so that's probably why no more relies have been made by the site's staff. Could you use the flashcard player with your six card list? Were all the entries correct? Could you access and edit your six card list? Would it update? I'm just suggesting that your list may have been corrupted in some way and, therefore, not usable or unstable.
