vapor propulsado hélices

vapor propulsado hélices

En Los Estados Unidos en 1787 se botó el primer barco de vapor propulado hélices.

In the U.S en 1787 the first steam boat using a propellar was launched.

se botó = was launched
hélice = propeller
barco de vapor = steamboat

I don't understand why propulado is in this sentence.
Wouldn't se botó be enough'

Yes, Motley, I was trying to say that in my post, the boat was "moved" by propellers after being launched.

hélices takes care of the propeller part & propulsado means propelled, so is this just another meaning for steamboat'

No, the sentence translates to "The first propeller-driven steamship was launched in the U.S. in 1787."

All the bits in Spanish are necessary to convey that meaning.

I left out the por & misspelled propulsado

hélices takes care of the propeller part & propulsado means propelled, so is this just another meaning for steamboat or a description of the method?

vapor propelled propellers?

I was thinking the boat was propelled (into the water) in addition to being launched.

Hi Motley
Propulsado means the boat was propelled, that's why it is in the sentence.

I think it's an error for "propulsado POR hélices." Earlier steam boats had used paddles, and the use of a propeller was novel. "Se botó" just means "was launched," and so has nothing to do with propellers, which is the key point of the sentence.

Hi motley, my friend:

first things first, one word is missing:

En Estados Unidos en 1787 se botó el primer barco de vapor propulsado por hélices. ...

...moved/propelled ('') by propellers
