I have heard it used as "me encamino por un rato". He , she walked alongside me for a while.or me encamino tres cuadras. three blocks.

hi eddy-this is very helpful, thank you. I also thought it could also mean "on our way" such as "con el fin del proyecto podiamos considerarnos encaminados"...

i do not know the context where you saw this word but encaminar means to direct, to guide. its meaning can change in certain circumstances ie, el proyecto está encaminado a ayudarles. in this sentence the plan is "designed or aimed" at helping them. "encaminarse a" also means to head for, to set out for, to be designed to, to be aimed at. don't expect this helps you much.
