Una herida is an open wound, which is bleeding. Herida literally means wound. Lesion means injury, which is the word you are attempting to use in your advertising material. Therefore, lesion is the more precise word for your usage. - chrisperez, Dec 6, 2014

what does "herida" or "herido" mean and what do you believe is the more recognized word for an injury sustained in a car accident?

If your skin gets ruptured, pierced, etc. (normally with blood) through cuts, friction, gunshots..., then use "herida" (wound).

If you get bruised, get broken bones, or any other internal damage, use "lesión", although this word also includes serious cuts, wounds, etc.

Lesión is the legal term for any harm, bodily injury or detriment, moral or economic, which may be caused by injury, disease or stroke, as well as other acts of fact or law.

Lesión is also used as medical or forensic term.
