"lugar" y "sitio"

Creo que "lugar" significa "place" ex. 1st place.

Mientras, "sitio" significa "place" ex. My favorite place

Aunque I have seen "lugar" significando "place" as in the segundo ejemplo. Pero, probablamente fue un beginner como mi.

Most of the time they mean the same thing, especially when they refer to a physical space:

Pon eso en cualquier sitio/lugar = Leave that anywhere
Van a construir un house en ese sitio/lugar = They are going to build a house over there.

"Sitio" means "siege" and "(Web) site" (and Taxi stop in Mexico), whereas "lugar" means "position" (in a job, company, race...), "situation", and "opportunity".

Lugar and sitio can both mean place. Although i always translate lugar as place and sitio as site.

asi puedes decir...mi lugar favorito...or mi sitio favorito...
