If you are old enough, you'll remember that back in the 1970's African-Americans used to call each other "blood." The concept was that of blood relation, even though there was rarely any actual relation. This is the same concept with "carnal." There is a locutor (DJ) on the radio here who uses this all the time for people who call in to his show. Similarly, many Mexican men call each other primo as a term of affection, even when not related.

What about "Mi Carnal" ?

"Mi Cunado and Mi Carnal seem to be used interchangeably as general phrases of endearment signifying "pal" or "friend" '? - not necessarily brother in law.

What do you think'
