what does y jale mean?

also what does ojala mean?

i have no idea if i'm spelling those right, but i hear them all the time and can't figure out whether they are conjugated verbs or weird slang or what!

I think híjole is more common. You'll also hear órale and ándale, which are used in similar situations. Listen for when they are used. I would recommend against using these until you are very comfortable with them. In the meantime, you can just say uy or ay.

It comes from Arabic, Allah. It cannot be broken down any further, and there are no other conjugated forms. It is followed by the subjunctive.

Your "y jale" is "híjale," which is Mexican slang for "wow," etc. It's just an exclamation.
