contorno recortado

I need help with this sentence. The biggest problem here is translating contorno recortado. Thank you.

I did a little more research into this, and it seems that these contornos recortados were found mainly in la Cueva de Las Caldas (Asturias, España). In related English texts, they seem to refer to these as plaquettes, which are pieces of engraved sandstone, and they date to about 14,000 years ago.

Hope this helps.

This seems to be talking about ancient art, and I'm just guessing, but aren't the contornos recortados those paintings made by putting a hand on a cave wall, chewing up charcoal, and spitting around the fingers to leave an imprint of the hand? Those are certainly famous.
