How do you say "ranch dressing" in Spanish'

In Spain, you might ask for a "salsa picante para ensaladas" and let's see what they offer you. We do not use these kind of dressings.

I don't know if ranch dressing is available in Spain (I'd be surprised), but you could always describe it to the grocer and see if there is a close alternative. Or you could make your own. It is made from buttermilk or sour cream, mayonnaise, minced green onion, garlic powder, and other spices, and there are lots of recipes on the Net.

Thanks James. I'm just in Spain right now and I wanted to by Ranch dressing the other day, so I was trying to ask for it at a local store but didn't know how to say it. I wanted it to dip celery in but if you know any Spanish sauces that are good to dip vegetables in, that's totally fine too.

Lynn, I doubt that you are going to find a translation for this, since food is very culture-specific, and salad dressings are not the same in Spanish-speaking countries. Just as we do not translate mole, salsa, or enchilada into English, there is probably no good translation for ranch dressing. The literal rendering would be "aliño ranchero," but that would not convey they idea. I think some people in Latin America say aderezo estilo ranch, but again, that will only be understood if the reader is already familiar with ranch dressing.
