sorry if this is commonly repeated, i just couldnt find a proper reference... ALSO would be great to learn lines to say to a loved one...

Welcome to the forum.
You can say either:
Te extraño.
or
Te echo de menos.

Me hace falta = you/he/she/it makes me a lack or need = I miss you,him/her/it

Me hacen falta los niños = I miss the children

It's in my book, that's all I know

From my experience the one that you use mainly depends on where the person is from. The first one is used more in Latin America and the second one is used more in Spain.
