What does the word "patrona" mean in Spanish?
This is a word for my son's language arts class.
Thank you.

I had heard it as boss, this is from wordreference, I think it could mean head of the house, female
patrón,-ona
I m,f
1 (de una empresa, negocio) employer
fam (jefe) boss
2 Rel patron saint
3 (de un barco) skipper
4 (de una pensión) (hombre) landlord
(mujer) landlady
II m

2 (medida) standard
It sounds like she is saying that she will be the head of the household from now on.
Thanks James:
The question is What is a patrona, and who was the patrona in Esperanza's household?
A sentence in the book says:
"Don't worry. I will take care of everything. I will be la patrona for the family now."
Thanks,
Can't say for sure without any context, but it could be owner or landlady.
