What does the word "patrona" mean in Spanish?

This is a word for my son's language arts class.

Thank you.

It sounds like she is saying that she will be the head of the household from now on.

Thanks James:

The question is What is a patrona, and who was the patrona in Esperanza's household?

A sentence in the book says:

"Don't worry. I will take care of everything. I will be la patrona for the family now."

Thanks,

Can't say for sure without any context, but it could be owner or landlady.
