SpanishDict forum is closing down on the 17th of October.
In case you are interested, this is the forum we came from. if you want to join us there, feel free to come along.
If many people come, the forum might get a new start.
We used to have the same sections as here, Word of the Day, daily threads in general, The International Café...

SD will die without the Forum.
It was the only place where members could interact - give advice and express opinions - good or bad.
Mods did a good job in controlling any divisive chatter especially about politics and religion.
Closing it is nothing but an idea to prevent any real interaction among members.
SD will become just what its name suggests a SpanishDictionary. with bits added on.
IMO opinion it is a reduction of free speech.
I haven't been here as long as some of you, but this has been my Spanish home for the last four years; and the forum has been the kitchen, the place where all the most important activities of the Spanishdict family take place, the place where guests gather and everyone feels comfortable and chummy. I feel as if robbers have broken into my house, stolen everything of value, and set fire to what was left. The owners have gutted their own site. Right now I don't have the will to explore a new-to-me websitemaybe after a few days when the smoke has cleared. Anyway, if it happens that I don't catch up with the rest of you, it's been a blast.
This has come as a shock to me and the other moderators. It's so sad, like a bad dream. We loved it here. We've been here a long time and now it has come to an end. I'm just so, so sad. I'm sorry everyone that this happened. I wish there was something we could do about it, but there isn't. I love you all...
*Hi Ifeel I am standing outside the divorce court with a hole in my pocket and no home ,all I wanted was my old dog. If anymembers want to keep in touch P M me.I am very sad and a bit pissed**
I guess I'll see you guys over there. ¡Qué lástima!
? ?
Dani.
Well, everyone else is being understanding, which is good I guess, but somebody has to come out and say it: Typical corporate decision. Cut off the loose ends because they are too troublesome and not making enough money.
I wonder if any thought was put in to the SD community itself, which is effectively being euthanised. We are real people here SD, not automatons. Many of us have invested a lot of time, thought, and effort into this forum. But all of that counts for nought apparently, when bottom-lines are the primary concern.
Gutted as I am, I can only imagine how devastated the regular contributors, and the Mods especially, must be, having invested at least 10 times the amount I ever have. I feel so sorry for you guys and the fact that SD has not fore-warned you of this development highlights their, or should I say its, corporate heartlessness.
And that is what SD will be without the forum. Another heartless husk of a site. So be it. This will probably be my last post. I'm hopping the fence and heading for the hills before they can take me behind the barn and do me in.
My thoughts to you all. See you on the other side, perhaps.
Ray and all my amigos.
SD have no idea about how we feel mates or just don't care.
Without the forum especially and the regular help and chat on that SD will not exist for long.
I have no idea what has been done to SpanishHelp, but:
Once I login, essentially nothing is available to me except the sandbox. If I logout then I can see the full forum but cannot post.
There are a few administrative areas I can see but not post on.
I don't even know what happened to my messages, or how to send one now.
Nice to see JelloNZ has joined.
But if nobody knows how to navigate it, it will be hard to retain members, much less get new ones-
I am going to go back and see if I can figure out how to see what I did post.
Well well well, there you go! Round and round and round lol.
Unfortunately the problem with Spanishelp will be the same as the problem before .................. no newbies.
Newbies are the life blood of any forum. That's why I try to treat people with common courtesy and respect .... even if they seem to not give two hoots what I think. As I said in a thread earlier today, every now and again somebody comes along who turns out to be a valued member and good (virtual) friend.
Without newbies we might aswell be a facebook friends group of old back-slapping amigos. I will give Spanishelp a try but let's just hope it doesn't die a slow lingering death like before.
The king is dead (SD) .... long live the king (SH)
I am shocked but not surprised that this forum is closing down! Sadly, the management team have not been able to come up with a practical and viable solution to protect us here from the almost continuous onslaught of spammers whose evil intent has been to paralyse this forum and prevent us from enjoying it!
The moderators: Ray, Amber and Ian have tried to continue to do a fantastic job against seemingly impossible odds!
I sincerely hope and pray that all our friends/everybody here who is serious about learning Spanish and English will join us there!
It's a sad day. Not only are we losing the learning ability, and the fun from the Q&A section, but reading through all the comments I can see that many true friendships have been formed.
Maybe if we transfer to Spanish Help (when the present access problems have been sorted out) and everyone tries to introduce someone new it will flourish again.
Please keep me updated if anyone finds a new "home"
Thanks to the mods. and all the help given.
Jeez! I get busy at work, and look what happens! I knew I should have bought that lottery ticket!
In all seriousness, I am so sad to see the forum close. This is really the only part of SD I've used. I haven't done any of the lessons or things like that - maybe 1 or 2. The Q&A is where I learned the most. Interacting with real people. Being given real-life practical tips and hints.
Heck, there's even another New Orleans person here. Yes, Rac1, you really helped me feel welcome here with that N'Awlins hospitality I grew up with.
Dani, I have those mini-lessons you've posted here all saved in a little Daniela SD Spanish text book.
Ray, Ian, Feliz, Bosque... and EVERYONE ELSE (I just don't have time or small enough fingers to put all your names here. I've enjoyed interacting with each and every one of you.
I will get on Spanish Help, and I will try to send PMs to all my special friends, and I hope we keep in touch.
As much as one can "love" strictly internet acquaintances, I love you all.
Que les vaya bien! Winkfish
p.s.- There'll be a big pot of gumbo waiting for any of you who makes it to New Orleans!
I've been trying to change the permissions in SpanishHelp. Please understand that since we left that forum a totally new platform has been installed. It's pretty much like starting from scratch.
I think I have given access all new and existing users the required rights. Please don't be discouraged. This will be a learning experience to everybody, me included.
If you have time take another look and let me know if now you can see all the sub-forums.
I'm thinking "Abraham, Martin, and John". I sure hate to see the QA go away, There are so many beautiful people here. The dictionary and QA are my favorite parts.
I didn't know about the other forum mentioned earlier in this thread, and I've been here since 2008, I'm going to check it out.
I have dipped in occasionally but the format has altered and some of the permissions, but I am no techie.
