You may wish to concentrate on your English first, then work on your Spanish. The "r's" is the least of the challenges.
Here is a tip, specifically directed at passing your current class, and even, perhaps, getting a good grade.
This is a tip, that will not actually take you additional time. In fact, it will probably save you time for any given grade you desire. The idea is to invest time up front that saves you time and heartache later on. It can work in Spanish, most other courses, and many aspects of your future life.
Before a topic is discussed / explained / introduced by your teacher in class.
- Read the chapter in your book
- Do some of the exercises...particularly if you can check their correctness.
- Make a mental or written note of one or two things you might not understand
Then, in class:
- Listen carefully. Try to follow the book and the exercises you have done. This will be much easier since you have familiarized yourself with the material.
Ask a question or two about what you did not understand when preparing, unless it is now clear. Give an example of a sentence you are trying to figure out so that the question is crystal clear.
After class, do the homework in time to be able to read ahead the next lesson.
Your homework will take you much less time because it is review instead of new work.
If you get corrected homework, alway try to understand WHY you got something wrong. Do the problems you missed over again, without looking at the answer, but consulting your book, verb charts, dictionaries...whatever. Prove to yourself that now you can get the right answer.
- Stay ahead of the teacher
If you are not able to figure something out from your teacher, feel free to post specific questions here and we will try to explain or point you to a lesson / review article that will help you.
Here's where you will save time:
Doing your homework.
Studying for tests.
OK, in all likelihood, you will find all of this so rewarding and successful that you will spend more time studying, in totality, but you will reap the rewards of much better grades, getting into a better college, getting a better job, etc. Enjoy!
Hello!
Here's a link that might be pertinent to this subject. How can I learn to roll my 'r's' in Spanish?
Hope this helps.
Regards!
In my opinion there is a big difference between passing an exam and actually 'learning' Spanish.
To pass an exam, concentrate and learn (parrot fashion if need be) the exact syllabus the exams cover. Work on your exam technique so that you are focussing only on what is needed to pass the exam. Forget the whys and wherefores and just concentrate of getting into your head what the examiner wants to see/hear.
To learn Spanish ..... read Spanish books/newspapers etc. Watch Spanish tv - the news is good as a starter. Make friends with Spanish speakers and chat as much as you can.
I have met quite a few people who have Spanish qualifications galore but struggle to comprehend or engage in any 'real' conversation outside of what they have studied. So for me, it's the latter - but of course I understand that to some people (obviously students especially) the exam pass is the important thing.
Good luck!!!!
