There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game..

Creo que un payaso se ve muy siniestro , más siniestro que una fantasma.

I think a clown looks very sinister, more sinister than a ghost.

Al contrario del ataque horripilante en la guardería en Brasil, todavía nadie ha averiguado qué propósitos siniestros subyacían bajo el ataque en Las Vegas, pero sabemos que no era un arrebato de ira, fue planeado meticulosamente durante meses.

In contrast with horrifying attack on the nursery in Brazil, as yet no one has figured out what sinister purposes were underlying the attack in Las Vegas, but we do now that it was not a fit of rage, it was planned meticulously for months.

La gente pensaban que los siniestros eran siniestros (del diablo), y en cambio les forzaban usar las manos derechos. Estoy tan alegre que los tiempos cambiaran, si no Paul McCartney no había sido permitir para ser parte de los Beatles.

People used to think that being left-handed was evil (of the devil) and forced them to use their right hands instead. I'm so happy that times have changed, or else Paul McCartney would not have been allowed in the Beatles.

"...but those on my left hand.... " Talk about reading too much into the meaning! - FELIZ77, Oct 7, 2017
siniestro a l w a y s has a very negative connotation in Spanish. - aleCcowaN, Oct 7, 2017
Actually, in the original Latin the word only meant "left", and didn't take on the negative connotation until later, like Feliz says, when the good and evil were separated by God and the good sat on His right and the bad on His left. - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017
Unfortunately, what was meant metaforically was taken literally, much to the disadvantage of left-handed people. But it was also true in Arab cultures where eating was done with the right hand and bathroom functions with the left. - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017
metaphorically.....sorry about the spelling mistake. - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017

Hay algo siniestro cuando tantos escaparates y edificios gobiernos gubernamentales tienen pegatinas en la entrada que prohiben los armas de fuego en sus propiedades dentro de las instalaciones.

There is something sinister when so many storefronts and government buildings have stickers at the entrance that prohibit fireagubernamentalesrms on their property.

No, it means that some people are stupid enough to think that a stupid sticker can change the mind of a madman. To a bad guy, this sticker means, "Come on in. Nobody is armed." - Echoline, Oct 7, 2017

Thanks for comments, amigos. I think a lot of stickers went up when conceal and carry passed in Illinois in 2013. I think it stands to reason that no business owner wants guns in their place of business...same with gov't facilities. Voters wanted it. - Sassette, Oct 7, 2017

In my view, the evil character called 'the joker' in the comic stories and Batman films, and the person who is Batman's nemesis not only looks sinister but his behaviour is sinister too! I also really think that this character is likely to be a psychopath because, among other reasons, he lacks empathy, never shows any genuine remorse for his behaviour and does not take responsibility for his actions! What is worse, is that he seems to take a sadistic pleasure in inflicting pain on his prisoners!

This is longer than a couple sentences, but I think it worthy.

The adjective “siniestro” is interesting. I’m going to concentrate on two of its meanings: “evil” and “left” (as in “the left hand). What is the relation/link between the two? For reasons that I don’t know, the right hand is the dominate hand. During the time of knights/the Crusades it was this hand that was used to brandish weap-ons. After a battle or skirmish between two opposing forces it was customary to shake hands in order to con-firm the end of hostilities. This handshake was carried out with the right hand to show the other party that there was no further threat. Anyone who offered the left hand left open the possibility of using the right to draw his weapon and commit a treachery.
