Question

In this sentence, "Marcos nos trajo la comida a nosotros." why do you need "a nosotros"?

Marcos nos trajo la comida already says Marcos brought me my lunch.

You can include it but I would say it is not needed. If you are answering a question, depending on how it was formulated, you could say "Marcos nos trajo la comida" or just "Marcos nos la trajo".

You are right, la comida is the direct object.

And you are also right that "a nosotros" is not necessary, but gives emphasis.

You really don't need the "a nosotros" It is used only to emphasize. As in "Marcos brought us the meal." (as opposed to bringing it to someone else.) There are some people who will just put it in without much thought at all.

It is called personal a and is needed when a person is a direct object.
