Question

On a spanish quiz one question was fill in the blank

Marta, ¿_____ al campo?

I wrote va because it didn't specify if it was formal or informal. But i got it wrong and the teacher said it should be vas? Shouldn't the blank be va because vas is only for informal conversations?

Hi Jonathan, welcome to the forum

No, it must be "vas", second person singular.

The formal "usted" form takes the third person singular, that is "va".

In this case,if you call the girl by her name, we supose that you know her , she might be a friend, so we assume this is an informal conversation.

In a test like this , they normally write:

Señor García, ¿va al campo?

Can you see the difference?

I mean, if you use the first name of somebody...this is informal , right?

If you say: Miss Martha...this would be considered formal.

So in Spanish it's the same.
