'por eso' as 'therefore'

Question

I was trying to tell my friend "I hurt my leg so i have to stay home." And am confused about the so. Some people have been telling me i can use por eso, but i've also been told it wouldnt work for what i mean. But i can't find anything better.

Would por eso work as a 'therefore' in this context?

"Me lastimé la pierna, por eso tengo que quedarme en casa". It sounds quite natural.

Does it also work for a past tense? like "Me lastimé la pierna, por eso tuve quedarme en casa" - osonivel, Sep 25, 2017

You can use both "por eso" or "así que", which would translate as therefore.

Me hice daño en la pierna, por eso tuve/ tengo que quedarme en casa, +

Me hice daño en la pierna, así que tuve/tengo que quedarme en casa.

Me lastimé, por lo tanto me tengo que.,...............

Me lastimé , así que me tengo que ..............

All the above could mean so, therefore, as a consequence .There could be more words .
For example.

Me lastimé, consecuentemente me tengo que...........( formal)
