There Is no why. Languages are the way they are, including English.

My question Is. Why do you need "the"?

Woudn't it be the same not to use "the"?

Book Is blue instead of The book Is blue?

There Is no real answer. Some languages don't have an artícle, don't have "the".

Why are there 4 ways to say the in Spanish

Welcome to the forum, SpanishSpanish smile

Well, the is an article. In English you only have three articles:

a = singular, indefinite article

an= singular (followed by vowel sound)

the = singular and plural, definite article

As to articles, all languages behave in a different way: In Russian you don't have articles like "the" or "a/an" at all. In German you have three different definite articles etc. All languages have their own kind.

In Spanish we have el/la/los/las (sometimes "lo" is used as an article , too)
