Technical Problems on SD.

I have had difficulty in finishing posts. When I attempt to answer a question that is over two sentences, the screen will blink once or twice, sometimes go black, blink again, reset itself and then everything that I wrote disappears. Does anybody else have this problem? It only happens on the SD website. If anybody else is experiencing this I'll let the admins know via the feedback button.

I can overcome the problem by composing in Word, then copying and pasting.

Not having problems here. I will notify the admins. but they won't get it until Monday. They are located in Florida, so that may be why....with the storm there.

If anyone is having an issue of any kind with SD, just send it to the admins. I suggest using their email if you can, but if not, send it through Feedback. Just make sure to send it.

Sorry some are having these problems. I know they've been in the process of fixing things on here.

I need all of you to send these messages to the SD Admins. Here is their email address.

support@spanishdict.com

I received this from Stephanie a couple of days ago in response to my email to her about the issues some members were having.

Hi Amber,

We still can't reproduce this problem on our end, which is preventing us from identifying what is causing this for a handful of people. If someone comes to you again about this, can you please tell them to write to me and send me a screenshot of what they are seeing? If they don't know how to take a screenshot, just tell them to email me, and I will give them instructions.

Thanks! Stephanie

If you're going to ask Stephanie how to take a screen shot, make sure to tell her what kind of device and operating system you have. - jtaniel, Sep 9, 2017
Yes, that is important. - rac1, Sep 9, 2017

I don’t like the idea of limiting new posters. It defeats the purpose of this site. However, I take a dim view of low-life spammers. Is there a program that detects “garbage text” in a header? The Spammers headers are always “garbage” and most contain either “love”, “Baba”, or “problem”. Maybe that’s the way to go, if such a program exists.

Daniela, the World is coming to an end. I hope that I am joking. smile

The same thing is happening to me. Also, I can't type numbers with the proper comma and decimals as per the Spanish convention.

Cutting and pasting from Word solves the first issue, but not the second.

How do you type 1,000,000 in Roman numerals?

Capital M with a horizontal line above it. - jtaniel, Sep 10, 2017

Ray and I both had a problem when deleting the Spam threads.

Our screens would simply go blank.

We had to power down and up again.

I use a desktop PC and IE and Ray an Apple computer.

It has not happened recently.

I haven't had a problem from deleting and banning the spam. It's become an every day occurance. - rac1, Sep 11, 2017

I am still having intermittent problems with posting links. I post get error remove links repost and edit them in. It has improved.

I don't get any of the other problems. I am not using an ad blocker. I use chrome on my tablet and Firefox on my laptop.

I'm getting the same Mardle, but have found it directly related to image addresses that SD doesn't like for some reason - I'm guessing it is part of a spam blocking attempt. - jellonz, Sep 9, 2017
The ones I have had trouble with are mainstream links. I might note them down for a while to see if there is a pattern. - Mardle, Sep 9, 2017
I've noticed the same. Media sources, even reputable ones, seem to get rejected, whereas obscure little Russian blogs (or something similar) don't seem to cause a problem. No doubt there's some rationale behind it, but it escapes me :) - jellonz, Sep 9, 2017

Yes, Dani. I have lost at least 3 posts this week, and it is very frustrating because I work hard on these sentences and then, poof, they are gone.

I also have to post sentences first, then go back and add a picture. If I try to add the picture at the same time I get a note that my post was not accepted.

Also, could not get into the conjugation screen at all last night.

Also, the whole SD crashed twice yesterday. I have not had any problems with any other site.

Two nights ago I caught a post where someone was trying to get the forum folks to click on a link. The link looked wrong to me, so I warned the forum. Then I went back in to the question and changed the title to tell folks to stay away from it. When thinking about it again, I probably should have edited out the link that he was trying to get us to click on. Turns out if someone would have clicked on the link their computer would have been infected with a virus.

In addition, the spammer is still running rampant.

I understand why the owners of this site would not want to have any impediments to new folks posting a question, but it seems that there are bad folks out there who for some reason want to hurt us. I think that the time has come (especially with that post 2 days ago that looked like a sincere post but was actually trying to get us to download a virus) for the real users to receive more protection against the bad guys. To this end, I unfortunately think that it will be necessary to have more stringent identification criteria before someone is allowed to post a question.

I'm finding a lot of image addresses are getting rejected these days - perhaps that's part of the new spam blocking attempts though. - jellonz, Sep 9, 2017

No issues here, which suggests this problem may not be site wide but user specific, which in turn could suggest a program clash on your systems. I know mention has been made in the past of adblocker programs causing issues with SD. Are you all running adblockers? If so, I'd turn them off and see if that fixes the problem.

Saying that there have been a few glitches recently so maybe it is an internal SD problem. Hopefully the admin will help you all out if this is the case.

I guess that we will have to wait until things get better in Florida--which may take a long time, then I will invite Stephanie to look at this thread. We may be only a "handful", but we are also the ones who post the most. Like I said, I can work around this problem by using Word, and also posting the written part of my question or answer, then coming back and insert any graphics through the editing process.

Mil gracias por su participación.

Yes, I put up the text first then edit to put in the photos that works out O K ,sometimes. - ray76, Sep 10, 2017
So now we have two mods and a "handful" of prolific participants with diverse difficulties. (Not bad for a Spanish kid, huh?) - Daniela2041, Sep 10, 2017
No, you have 4 mods and 3 are having difficulties. - rac1, Sep 11, 2017
