deshojar

to pull the petals off

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speakers suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Una vez presencié un tornado de Alabama que deshojó los árboles (y levantó casas móviles desde sus cimientos).

I once witnessed an Alabama tornado which stripped the leaves off the trees (and lifted mobile homes from their foundations).

Me encanta la temporada de otoño cuando muchos de los árboles se deshojan. enter image description here

I love the fall season, when many of the trees lose their leaves.

Es una prueba habitual, deshojar una flor, cuando alguien se enamoro y quiere saber que el otro le ama o no.

It is a usual test, pull the petals of a flower off, when someone falls in love and wants to know that the other loves him or not.

El Agente Naranja fue el responsable del deshojamiento de la flora del pueblo. que luego resultó en el desalojamiento del pueblo mismo.

Agent Orange was responsible for the village's defoliation that later resulted in the displacement of the villagers themselves.

I think that Simon Dow works for Miracle-Gro® nowadays. I'm kidding.

Sometimes removing petals is a two man job.

Amorphophallus titanum Amber (if you could see the whole thing you'd get the reason behind the name), otherwise known as the Corpse flower because of its smell. They grow up to 3 metres and may only flower as infrequently as once every 10 years. - jellonz, Sep 4, 2017

He knew the relationship had ended when he pulled the petals off some roses to create a path to the bed, and she asked him: Why have you made a mess?

¿Cómo se dice el saludo oficial de Hawaii, EEUU?

¿El "alojamiento".?

"Aloha" es saludo y despedida e las islas hawaianas.

I forgot the English. My bad!

How do you say the official Hawaiian greeting?

"Alojamiento" es a kind of a joke on my part. The pronunciation of the first part of the Spanish sounds like the Hawaiian. "Aloha". Ah, decir "Aloja".

Äloha" is a greeting and a "farewell" in Hawaiian. It has many more meanings.
