The expression is used as a specific category within a broad art exhibition:
"La exposición propiamente dicha comprendía, fundamentalmente, obras escultóricas, proyectos arquitectónicos y creaciones plásticas, siendo éstas las más numerosas. "

Artes plásticas are usually drawings, paintings,In fact they could also include architecture and sculpture. Artes plásticas are not music, dance, theater, etc.
