Spanish never ever used an apostrophe for possession. It's always "de," La hija de, la madre de, el carro de xxxxx - - escritoraEEUU, Aug 25, 2017

"Cari's madre" is not Spanish, so your other alternative is right.

Hello Rachel

Welcome to our Spanishdict community forum smile

You asked:

if I have a sentence and it says "Cari's mother talks to the reporter" would I say the mother of Cari ( la Madre de Cari) or Cari's mother (Cari's madre)?

The Spanish language never uses apostrophes!

So, your Spanish sentence must be: La madre de Cari habla con el reportero.

In Spanish you cannot say: Peter's dog is eating a bone! Instead, you have to say: The dog of Peter is eating a bone

= El perro de Pedro está comiendo un hueso

I hope this helps smile

Corrijan mi español si es necesario, por favor smile
