I have never run across so many different meanings of the verb mandar. It's used mainly to talk about sending something or "commanding" somebody to do something.
One of the uses I have found in Mexico and California is the use of the "Imperative" "mande?" used to get some one to repeat something when you don't understand or didn't hear what was said.
But anything that can have something to do with "send" makes sense. I realize that there will be members here who will probably have some good regional idioms. I will await this and learn something new.
However, there is nothing to get confused about.
Some examples from my dictionary.
La maestra mandó a los niños que se callaran. / The teacher told the children to be quiet.
He mandado que me suban el desayuno a la habitación. / I’ve asked to have breakfast sent up to my room.
Te he mandado una carta. / I’ve sent you a letter.
El ministerio ha mandado a un inspector. / The Ministry has sent an inspector.
Manda a los niños a la cama. / Send the children to bed.
Me han mandado a por el pan. / I’ve been sent to get the bread.
El médico le ha mandado unas gotas. / The doctor has prescribed some drops.
And where does "Enviar " fit in here , very confusing as I said.
