Please capitalise at all times , I think your sentence is missing something. - ray76, Aug 14, 2017
Welcome to SpanishDict, Carmelita. Ray is correct...you must use proper capitalization. Thanks. - rac1, Aug 14, 2017

In a lot of Spanish, and by inheritance, Latin American traditions, the celebration of 15-16 years of age (for girls) and 17-18 years of age for boys, is considered a right of passage, the time when the child becomes woman/man respectively.

This used to be quite formal hundreds of years ago. It is far less so nowadays, but some cultural notions remain entrenched.

Gekko, i guess this is what the hispanohablantes refer to as a Quinceañera...is this correct/am I right, please? - FELIZ77, Aug 14, 2017
I was meaning for a girl, of course ;) - FELIZ77, Aug 14, 2017
Yes, Feliz, a "Quinceañera" is a special big-deal party thrown to celebrate a girl's 15th birthday. They can be unbelievably extravagant and expensive events. - Gekkosan, Aug 14, 2017
Oftentimes girls are given the choice between an expensive quinceañera party, or something like a cruise or trip (tour) to Europe. - Gekkosan, Aug 14, 2017
