I know normally people use "Muchas gracias" to say 'thank you so much', but is "gracias tanto" accepted just as well?

Rodney P. gave you some great alternatives for saying thank you in Spanish.

I don't believe "gracias tanto" is said in Spanish. If it were said, it would have to be tantas gracias, as gracias is a noun and tanto is being used as an adjective and must therefore agree in gender and number with the noun. When tanto is used as an adverb it does not change and would generally directly follow a verb.

An example: ¡No bebas tanto! Don't drink so much!

If you are feeling talkative smile or want to impress someone with your ability to say entire sentences in Spanish there are many other alternatives to express gratitude such as:

Sra. García, le quiero dar las gracias por una cena magnífica.
Mrs. García, I just want to say thank you for a wonderful dinner.

Solo quería agradecerte por todo lo que has hecho por nosotros.
I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for us.

Quisiera agradecerles su presencia aquí. (Gracias por venir)
I would like to thank you for your presence here. (Thanks for coming)

¡Te mereces un premio! por....(algo que alguien ha hecho para ti)
You deserve a prize! for...(something that someone has done for you)

Me gustaría extender mi más sincero agradecimiento a ...nombre/pronombre por algo
I should like to extend my grateful thanks to ... name or pronoun for something

No puedo siquiera expresar mi agradecimiento por tu regalo. (amabilidad) (ayuda)
I can't even begin to express my gratitude for your gift. (kindness) (help)

Siempre recordaré tu bondad hacia mi familia.
I shall always remember your kindness towards my family.

Of course, it is perfectly permissible to say: "gracias tonto" to someone's who's just been a perfect fool.

Gracias tanto is a very typical Italian way to thank somebody.

It would be "grazie tanto" or "tante grazie".

This sounds pretty similar to the Spanish "gracias", maybe that was what confused you.

I believe it would be "gracias por tanto" .

You can also say:

Lo agredezco mucho

Mil gracias

Muchisímas gracias

Gracias por todo

Un montón de gracias

There are probably other options, but those are the ones I know.

"Gracias tanto" is not correct. You may say "gracias por todo".

Somehow we overlooked gracias por adelantado and gracias de antemano

They both pretty much translate to thanks in advance
