A Little Reminder.
This is for all the newbies on the forum: When you post a question, and you get an answer, please do not be too quick to give it the "best answer." There will most likely be a few more to be posted and you will be able to get more light on what you want to know.
Also don't forget to vote. I have noticed on several occasions, that OP's will give a person the "best answer" grade, but neglect to vote. So newcomers, please don't get into too much of a hurry. Let a few folks give their ideas, and don't forget to come back and check out the new ideas. OK?

I remember last month answering a newbies question - one of those where there is not an obvious answer. He immediately voted me best answer. I think it was tips about an aspect of learning Spanish. I advised him to unvote as he may find other people would not answer seeing the tick of an accepted answer and he should wait at least 24 hours before choosing. He thanked me for my 'unselfishness' and the next day having received a number of answers chose the best answer [no this time he did not choose me]
What I am saying is strategically, unless it is a simple question with an obvious answer, it is better not to choose for at least 24 hours and maybe longer because the tick will put others off contributing.
Agreed Daniela .
Many new members and some old ones are not fully aware that
S D is a totally global site and that our membership covers the globe over all
time zones so that it may take a day for some members to reply to a thread.
And please show your appreciation by voting as Daniela has pointed out,
we all love to be appreciated.
I totally agree with the ideas expressed by Daniela in her post above! On occasions, I have observed that newbies (visitors/new members to the site) and perhaps others have voted my post and other people's posts as best answer far too soon without giving other people a chance! When many people , especially native speakers, see the tick by the post in the Question and Answers section they may be tempted not to check it out/look at the post. This would be a pity!
You get much better answers overall when you keep.your options open to the last minute, (ie: as long as possible!) as this encourages more people to participate, including native Spanish speakers who are likely to give the best, most accurate and up to date answers/responses!
One of my posts was recently quickly and wrongly chosen as best answer - but it was not deserving of this honour as I had, through ignorance unintentionally given an inaccurate answer with errors/mistakes! Usually, if I am not totally sure of something I will mention that I am not a native Spanish speaker and advise the questioner to wait for confirmation from native speakers. Most regrettably, I was not aware of my basic error until it was pointed out to me, so I unintentionally misguided the questioner and any others in this forum who may have depended upon the accuracy of my answer on that occasion, and for that I am genuinely sorry! :(
I have since returned to the offending post and made corrections according to the posts written by some natives who were right to correct me.
